My Boot.ini file is Missing...
When i boot...i get an error
"Invalid BOOT.INI file"
"Booting from c:\winnt"
BUT....it boots any way..
so i decided to go see that the problem was...like if there was an accidental typo or something...
but i can't find the file now.....i'm on a single boot machine

That's odd. The file is in the root or you create a new one:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

i'm cautious about creating a new one...as my machine might not boot
is it any different for Server? (which is what i use)
i also have 4 hdd and boot off the first..

If you dont want to write a new one, you can simply go into Win2k setup, go into the "repair" part, then "inspect boot environment" and "repair boot sector" (or whatever they say)... this will clean up all booting problems and should take care of your boot.ini problem too.
