Now that I've determined that my winmodem can't be wrenched into compliance, i need to know what a good and hopefully cheap model of modem I can use until I convert to cable modem and possibly wireless in the next year. Anyone have a modem for less than $50 that will do the job? :x

I'm at $31.00, we'll see if it holds.

It's still holding! Good luck!!

I have one of these on my wife's system. I bought it because it is a hard modem (controller built in). I also have a Diamond Supra Express 56e (external serial connect - NOT the MAC version) which worked very well. Problem is, they are hard to come by.

I am fortunate enough to have broadband now, which is great in Linux.

If this doesn't work out, I noticed that Computergeeks has an external modem for the same price. It is certified by them to work in Linux.
