Good:
Extremely stable (and its Beta 1 )
Boots up in half the time win2k pro takes
detected and installed 95% of my hardware off the bat
applications seem to load up faster than in win2k pro
Comes with Directx8 and IE 5.6 built in
TCP/IP code is even better than win2k pro, my 56k was screaming last night
WMP 7 loads up in like 2 secs now instead of 2 years in WinME
Bad:
Takes forever to shutdown
Has stupid system restore from Winme built in
with win2k drivers install my G450 32 meg has no 3d
accelaration at all
Literally eats ram for breakfast, after fresh boot I had 24 megs out of 128 megs left
Slow response when reading from cdrom drives
Stupid animated slow ass help from WinME

Because they are watching themselves, remember with windows me where if your computer shut off faster than the cache could be saved to the drive or something like that, it could crash, cause errors and also because it's safer to shut down slower, trust me, gives Windows time to clean up the mess.
System Restore:
Stupid? What are you smoking? That's another thing that is beautiful, stops some of the users from *****ing when their system screws up and happens to be a very smart thing to have in there.
with win2k drivers......
Whistler = Win2k = not true. If your going to install Win2k drivers to Whistler, than expect some problems, don't ***** about it
Eats RAM
Really? New GUI, doing many changes of 9x and NT to it....hmm, common sense buddy.
Slow response when reading CD
Not here it doesn't and not on my friend's machine, your CD-rom must suck or something.
Slow ass help from WinMe?
Use the compatibility mode shortcut thing that appears on your desktop, it's better than the slow ass winme thing.

Partly correct. Their is more crap for NT to deal with so it takes longer to shut it all down (Services, new GUI, System Restore). The ME cache thing has nothing at all to do with NT.
"Whistler = Win2k = not true. If your going to install Win2k drivers to Whistler, than expect some problems, don't ***** about it"
TRUE. Wether you want to admit it or not Whistler at it's core is Windows 2000. Windows 2000 drivers will work perfectly fine in Whistler. Also he's not ***** about it. He's describing a problem not complaining.
"Eats RAM
Really? New GUI, doing many changes of 9x and NT to it....hmm, common sense buddy."
Yeah, it's pretty sad when your OS eats up 100m of ram all by itself. Sad indeed. The GUI has ALOT of work. For instance the slow responsiveness of the GUI is partly due to the fact that it performs it using Blits.
"Slow response when reading CD
Not here it doesn't and not on my friend's machine, your CD-rom must suck or something."
In Build 2257 Whistler was tottally unable to see my DVD drive at all. It's likely that they modified th Atapi driver's. If you rip them out of 2000 then you should be able to get it working.
"Use the compatibility mode shortcut thing that appears on your desktop, it's better than the slow ass winme thing."
The slowass help stuff is extremely annoying. Hopefully the PRO versions of Whistler won't have all the crap the Personal versions do.

now for DosFreak, you list a lot of problems that people have when they run it on a crappy system, slow? never slow here. Problems? not a problem here....100 M RAM eaten? get a life...but like I have said before, you gonna complain about it, don't install it. end of story. Err and I may as well add in, it's like saying i'll stay with Windows 3.11 because I don't like the start menu in 95. they are very childish complaints about the OS. It's like saying, take out the help sections, nobody needs them.

I have note listed people with alot of problems. I just quoted your quotes of pr-man.
Have you never heard of optimization? Oh I'm big bad man with 1g of ram an unoptimized buggy GUI that wasted 40m more ram than it needs is no bother to me. Man, I'm glad you don't code and if you do code I hope nobody uses your code.

this has turned into a non-facts war. I love when people complain or say bad things when a product isn't close to being done. Throw them the meat, watch them run right for it..

Jdulmage it's a good thing you aren't on the Ars forums because you wouldn't last 5 seconds on the Batttlefront with your crap.

(It looks to me like you posted the last post because I have gone way over your head and you've got nothing left to back you up. Prove me wrong.)

I'm backing off...
Here is what I want to see in Beta 2:
The removal of IE 5.6, and the addition of IE 6 beta in it's place
The finished DX8 (duh)
The ability to be able to install Whistler, win2k and win9x drivers to whistler with full functionality.
MORE COMPATIBILITY. The compatibility is good now, but more more more, lol
And the obvious bugs fixed that people found.
That's all.
