Martin Wimpress, on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team, announces the

first Beta release of Wily Werewolf, which will become Ubuntu 15.10.

He informs us of the flavors that took part in the release, where to

download the images for testing, and links to sites where further

information about the release can be found.

Nathan Haines announces the accepting of submissions for the Ubuntu

Free Culture Showcase which he describes as: "The Ubuntu Free Culture

Showcase is a way to celebrate the Free Culture movement, where

talented artists across the globe create media and release it under

licenses that encourage sharing and adaptation." He lists the groups

for which submissions will be accepted and links to an Ubuntu Wiki

page where further information can be found.

April Wang tells us about the "And your Dream come true" Innovation

contest which was run by China Mobile and Canonical, and its winners.

She writes " Fu Xixi created the winning entry for his dictionary app

in the Students category. Wang Guojian came in first place for his

plug-in based native music player in the Professional category."

Further we are told about online and offline training sessions that

were carried out educating participants on the Ubuntu Phone OS. She

=== Another successful Developer Hackathon in China ===

 

April Wang follows up after the Beijing Hackathon, writing about an

event in Shenzhen with 30 people onsite and over 170 showing up

online. She writes that there were 30+ hours of hacking with several

different teams showcasing their work with demo sessions. Sessions

included controlling the movement and light features of a Rapiro robot

with a Ubuntu Phone and an app called "IoT Ranger" that integrates

both Ubuntu Phone and Ubuntu Core. She concludes: "This was a truly

great and rewarding hackathon and we thank and congratulate all of

those who participated to make the event a success."

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols of ZDNet writes that with 135,000 instances

of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) running Ubuntu vs Amazon's own

Amazon Linux Amazon Machine Image (AMI for short) it's clear to see

Ubuntu is still taking over the cloud. Canonical has even combined

their work on OpenStack to include Windows Server on OpenStack.

Christopher Tozzi, The VAR Guy, outlines his reasons for saying that
