As part of a student household I get my net connection through a server running Win 2K. We have been having problems, and now the PC simply won't do anything, and so I wish to install Linux to do the job. Anyone got any suggestions about how to go about it?

Specifically what distribution should i look at, and will there be compatability problems with a usb DSL modem?

Anyone know where to look for answers to these?

BTW the PC is Celeron 500 (Maybe not the best start smile
4 gig hard drive
256 megs ram

and the modem is a Draytek Vigour.

I can't make a suggestion from personal experience, but a Linux server installer guy I know really likes smoothwall.

Thanks, I dled and setup (With a fair amount of help - lol) smoothwall. It's brillient, (Which is more than can be said for my spelling) so thanks for letting me know about it.

Just one question, anyone know how to setup IP forwarding on it? Do I have to use Iptables (Scarey) or is there an easier way?
