Nearly everytime when I want to close a explorer window in win2k either the window or the whole explorer (taskbar, all other windows etc) crashes. Sometimes that also happens when I'm copying files to a folder. So everything what's got to do with the exlorer... WHY?
I reinstalled windows2k several times, nothing changed...
This happend with my old board (intel) and with the new asus, so there's isn't the problem. The same win2k cd works fine on a second pc.
It's horrible when you have to reopen the explorer everytime you do ANYthing with it

what ver of ie are you using?
you should use 5.5 sp1 or 5.01 for best stability in win2k

IE 5.5 SP1 but the problem appeared with all versions IE 5.0, 5.01, 5.5 SP1...
But when I say explorer crashes I don't mean IE! It's only the windows explorer (explorer.exe)

did it happen before you installed SP1? if not, try uninstalling SP1 and waiting for SP2, i have had a lot of problems with SP1 that no one else seems to have, wheather its bad luck or i'm just doing something wrong. Give it a try.

Lawless,

Do you have Office 2000 (or parts thereof) installed on the system? I saw Application Popups on Explorer.exe for a while after I installed SP1 on some W2K machines. The problems went away after BOTH SR-1 and SP2 (Why does Microsoft do that?) for O2K were installed.

I have also seen some recent (3.02x) versions of DirectCD which APPEARED to be causing similar issues, and the problems disappeared when the DirectCD version was updated to 3.03.

And there were two W2K systems on which NOTHING was changed, but the crashing explorer.exe problem went away by itself!!! (I thought I was crazy for thinking this until I saw posts by other people I respect who said they had seen the same thing. Maybe not 100% of that stuff about W2K being "self-healing is all hype!)

Hope you find a solution.

Regards,
Jim

Got some problems with my VIA drivers.... had to reinstall the whole system!
And this error disappeard! But when I installed one little program which let's you split files into smaler pieces (for floppies) the explorer crashes again... so I removed it and *hope* it is gone. I'm going to test my system a bit but I think it's ok now!

"its wierd how one little prog can f.uck the whole system isn't it?"

We can all thank the registry and shared files for that.

Lawless- Winzip has the file spanning built into it and never seems to affect 2k (at least I havent seen any issues with it)
