Hey guys hows it goin. This is my first post here yay! Ive been reading this forum for the last couple of weeks and ive finally decided to join: )

Anyways here is my question. I recently moved into a new apartment and am using @home for my inet connection. The cable modem is connected into a server, the server goes to a hub, then the hub has two more computers connected to it. What happens is periodically I will loose my connect to the net. I have to restart my apps usually and they will go right back online, but this was not an issue before in my last apartment, which I was using the same exact equipment and same @home provider. Also, the cable modem is not loosing its link, the link light is always a solid green. I have had the @home provider out to my house 2 times to look into this and all they can tell me is that its probably a setting within my computer that is causing the problem. There was the issue of the line signal being too strong but they checked that and that is not the issue either. I have also tried swapping nics just in case one may have gone bad and also no luck with that either. This is very strange behavior to me, in the past I never experienced problems with staying online, usually going for weeks at a time. Now i get disconnected at random intervals, sometimes as close as 5 minutes apart. The things im usually doing when this happens is chatting on irc or playing quake. I hope I gave enough information to help eliminate some guesses: ) thx guys and nice to see ya.

Are you using Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing? If so, I had the same problem when I was using it.

I wound up switching to Sygate and all is running good.

ok well i tried various things to no avail here they are

1. switched from ICS to RRAS on the server machine
2. Did a fresh install of 2k pro instead of server
3. Tried flip flopping nics
4. Substituted in different nics
5. Tried different PCI slots for the nics
6. Sacrificed my best friend to the networking gods

ive narrowed the problem down to either im missing something with the hardware/software settings on the server, or my cable connect just cant handle networks (propostrous).

if i hook up just one computer there is no problem whatsoever. rather annoying though since each computer takes on different tasks and disabling one or more of them i loose out on some aspect of my online experience. ie unhook main computer and dont play any games, unhook secondayr computer and dont do email/browse/listen to mp3s/download apps. unhook servr and loose out on whatever its serving up at the time. grrr how come im the only one replying to my own posts: )
