I was wondering how well 2 100Mbit LAN's connected with each other through a 1000Mbit optic fibre cable, use the bandwitdh of the optic cable.

If each LAN is connected to the optic cable via a switch that supports a 1000Mbit connection - will this solution be any better than by connecting the 2 LAN with STP cable ??

Hope you get the picture...

The box said "requires Win NT 4 or better" so I installed Linux.

It will only be "better" if you have tons of traffic flowing between networks.

If this is not the case, you won't notice too much of a difference.

Or its probably better said that you won't notice an improvement which would warrant the massive amounts of money you would spend on the upgrade.
