make sure that the client is set to obtain ip address automatically, and also that there are no other dhcp servers on the network

Do you have a firewall installed, like BlackIce Defender?
If so, it may be blocking the IP of your client. I had a similar problem.

for the 2nd netcard (go'n to the 2nd computa) i put in the ip address manually as 192.168.0.1 and subnetmask as 255.255.255.0 (defualt) and i put in the 2 dns servers my ISP uses same as my other net card (one go'n to my cable modem), so try that out if u got teh dns servers info for you isp
good luck

Shearing net on a modem
What a waist.
Hehehe....
But anyway, enable the ICS on the connection that goes to the net, on you connection with the 2nd computer set ip to 192.168.0.1 and Subnet to 255.255.250.
On the computer you are connectiong to your server set the Gateway to 192.168.0.1 and DNS to the same as primary system and set to IP to auto or you can set manualy to 192.168.0.2 and Subnet to 255.255.255.0
