CCS shortlisted for Leading Lights Awards 2014

Recommended Posts

Cambridge, UK, 12th May 2014 â€“ CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems Limited), developer of the world’s first self-organising small cell microwave backhaul system for mobile networks, has been shortlisted for a Light Reading Leading Lights Award. Featured in the Best New Product (Mobile) category, the nomination recognises CCS’ development of a “potentially market-leading product that, through engineering and technical excellence, enables the deployment of profitable next-generation mobile services.â€

CCS’ small cell backhaul system is the only solution that meets all key requirements of mobile network operators. The combination of its unique self-organising capability and multipoint-to-multipoint architecture delivers higher resilience plus considerable savings by reducing manual labour costs during planning, installation and ongoing network expansion. The small outdoor device can be easily deployed in under 15 minutes and only one unit is required per lamppost, which is more acceptable to urban planners. The system offers increased flexibility with dynamic bandwidth management and capacity that’s more easily scaled. There’s no need to re-visit existing sites when new nodes are added because existing nodes automatically re-organise and re-align – unlike conventional microwave systems, which would need continual re-planning and re-alignment as the small cell network grows. CCS’ backhaul system enables cost-effective small cell deployment in a flexible, organic way as additional capacity is required. Having executed a number of trials, CCS announced its first commercial deployment with China Mobile in early 2014.

The Leading Lights Awards, this year celebrating its 10th anniversary, recognises the most innovative and inspiring companies working within the communications services sector. The announcement of the finalists for the 16 award categories is the last stage before the winners are revealed at the awards dinner on 17 June, at The Adler Planetarium in Chicago.

Speaking of the nomination, Steve Greaves, CEO and co-founder of CCS commented; “We are honoured to be shortlisted for a Leading Lights Award in this category, especially in such a competitive year. It acknowledges all the hard work that’s gone into developing a backhaul solution that essentially makes small cells viable, and will help the mobile industry deal with the capacity challenges that lie ahead.â€
