Pinging with computer names is very slow.why?

we had nt server with DHCP and DNS installed
I found pinging the network computers
with their names is taking more time.
Is there any thing to be done at server side
to get rid of this problem.
kindly help me out

Have you tried WINS? It it easy to configure, and will help with name resolution.
