Remote Assistance / VNC controlling PC

Quote: I use pcAnywhere 10.5 and control 19 machines over 3 networks. I think it is the better of the programs I have used in the past. There are lots of features like remote printing, NAT and background servicing. How much delay do you have? Is 1-2 seconds normal?

Remote Assistance / VNC controlling PC

Thanks for the tips guys. We tried today using Symantec PCAnywhere. Setup and connection is very easily setup, but I think it is somewhat slow. I don't know if the other programs are faster, but right now, there is maybe 1-2 second delay time before something happens. Is that "OK" or should I try another program? [Remote]My setup: winXPpro, 1200Mhz cpu, 512mb sdram, 110gb ata-100, 0,5Mbit ADSL [Host]His setup: winXPpro, 1600Mhz cpu, 512mb ddram, 40gb ata-100, 2,5Mbit ADSL Also, and most importantly, I want to be able to turn off his computer and start it at a later time. As of now I can only restart/turn off the computer but not start it from zero so to speak. Does it have anything to do with Wake-On-Lan capabilities on his computer? We want to have this option because the past weeks have had a few storms here and he doesn't want his computer online when the thunder is rumbling which is quite understandable

Remote Assistance / VNC controlling PC

Hi all, me and my friend would like to set up some sort of remote connection for me to control his PC. He has an apartment in town, a couple of miles from here, but he is not there very much (lives with his girlfriend right now on another location) So, we would like for me to somehow log in to his PC and control it from here. I would like to be able to start/restart it, browse his system, the internet and also download from the internet (since he has a much faster connection than me). You get the picture right? We both use winXP pro / ADSL connection so we were thinking of trying Remote Assistance, but we're not sure if that'll work. There is another program that we would like to try if RA does not work. The program is VNC ( http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html ) So to my question, does anyone know if this is possible and if so, with which program? Maybe there are other and better programs for this type of setup? Thanks for any tips /Drem

    Best FTP Client?

  6. For example, when I want to transfer a large file (400-800Mb) from one partition to another, or when I extract a big file of the CDrom, XP starts eating away at the RAM. Soon it's down to nothing RAM and it recovers some, but soon it's zero again. During this point the computer is very slow and shuggy. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this annoying problem? Don't say "get more RAM" now There is 512Mb of RAM. I use the latest VIA 4-1s and all the HDDs operate through the HPT370 ATA100 controller. HDDs are ATA100s and one ATA66. Thanks for any tips.

Failing to use Windows Update. ARGGHHH!!

I noticed something funny. If I create another user with administrative rights and log on to that profile, Windows Update works just fine. Hmmm.

    TvTool problem...

Quote: Hey, dunno if this is the right forum, but I'll give it a try at least. I'm having some problems with TvTool 5.5.2 on Windows XP Pro, using a nVidia GeForce 2 mx card with the CH700x TV chip. The problem is, I want to play an interlaced DVD on my tv, but I can't enable the "Non-Interlace" option in TvTool, since it's greyed out. Does anyone know why I get that, and/or how to fix it? Thanks. You should try a newer revision of the TvTool software. This is what the website says: "Version 5.5.3 is uploaded. Now TVTool should work properly with the TV chip CH7003. Also the switching back to monitor mode should work now under 2000 and XP under all conditions" http://www.tvtool.de/index_e.htm

Please help with this silly XP problem

Quote: nursmgr.cpl is the User Manager Control Panel file - there is no application that opens it, it's part of Explorer! If you can open it from the control panel, there's no (logical) reason why you couldn't open it by clicking the link. Rgds AndyF That's what puts a big questionmark above my head It's a really weird problem.

Please help with this silly XP problem

Quote: Do you receive this error when you access the User Accounts through the Control Panel? If so, you can either run a repair by booting from the XP CD or extract it from the .CAB file on the CD. No, the User Acccounts shortcut in the Control Panel works fine. There is no problem with the program itself. Somehow the link from the menu (from where it doesn't work) have disappeared. If I knew which program actually opens the "nursmgr.cpl" file I could browse my way to that program and fix the shortcut.

Please help with this silly XP problem

Recently, out of the blue, this problem occured. (LINKS don't seem to work by clicking, please cut and paste into the address field) hem.passagen.se/nicomaster/temp/error.JPG In this menu, when I left-click "User Accounts", I get this error: hem.passagen.se/nicomaster/temp/error2.JPG Does anyone know which program opens it? It's a silly problem but I still want it sorted. Thanks for any help
  13. This is driving me crazy. All of a sudden, often when I boot into windows the graphics is set to 4bit color and 800x600. When I check the display properties is says "Default monitor on" In the device manager the GF3 card says "is unable to start - Code 10" From there it can be time consuming to get it back to normal. Some times the "roll back driver" works, sometimes uninstalling the GF3 through device manager and reinstalling works. This is so weird, it just looses the card out of the blue sometimes. I've tried Nvidia Detonators 23.11 and 21.85 but the same thing happens. Maybe every 5th reboot result in the same 4bit color - graphiccard and monitor gone thingy. Some more info: Abit KT7A-R w 300W PS KT7A bios ZT (bios set to primary display - AGP) 4 HDD through HPT370 controller Leadtek GF3 TD Nvidia 23.11 (currently 21.85) Default winXP dx8.1 drivers Nvidia Refreshrate fix put to monitor maximum supported. VIA 4-1 4.37a This has been going on for about a week now, never happened before. Thanks for any tips.

    Filesearching VERY slow in winXP

Quote: If you look at the bottom on the search dialog panel, you should see a selection to turn on file-indexing. This will speed up file searches quite a bit. I'll try that, thanks.
