    Enable Celeron 2 Cache?

It's diabled in hardware. Unless you have an electron microscope and a sub-micronic etching system, there is no hope. CeleronII chips are just PentiumIII chips that fail the L2 cache test at bin sorting time. Therefore, Intel disables half of the cache (the half with the error in it) and sells the chip for 1/3 the cost. The cache latency is also higher on a C2 than a P3 (which, as a C2 850 owner, pisses me off).

    PowerDVD

People have said that installing PowerDVD under Windows 2000 severely inhibits game perforance. Is there any truth to these rumors.
  3. Not the Internet-via-powerline scheme again. That one always seems to pop up every now and again. It seems like more of a pipe-dream than a viable product.

No! Not a fried CPU - Someone comfort me! :(

You are pretty damn lucky. Next time for the love of god use a HSF.

    IRQ sharing

sorry, repeat post... [This message has been edited by nonzero (edited 21 July 2000).]

    IRQ sharing

I forgot to mention that the USB Controller also shares an IRQ with PCI slot 4/5. [This message has been edited by nonzero (edited 21 July 2000).]

    IRQ sharing

I have the same motherboard as you do (ASUS p3b-f) except mine uses a Celeron II 850. I switched from ACPI to Standard PC with no problems. The only problem is that on the P3B-F, Slots 3&6 and 4&5 share an IRQ, other than that its a great board. I have a problem with sound however. I have a Gueillmot Fortissimo (Optical Out) on Slot 2 (the only slot that has its own IRQ). Whenever I shutdown the machine, Windows 2000 forgets I have the card. When I boot up again, the drivers are installed, yet there is no sound and the little speaker icon in the taskbar is gone. ------------------ Celeron II 850 ASUS P3B-F 128 MB 7ns PC133 El-cheapo RAM Promise Ultra66 Card Dual Maxtor 15GB Drives Firewire Controller

    Rant About Win2k

I have a BP6 1.0 board, so the VTT voltage issue should not apply to me. I have a 300 watt PS, so power is not an issue. Yes, I do have the Multiprocessor HAL installed (I do not use any kind of Power Managment). Hmm, the chipset overheating. Well I could install an old 486 fan on it that I have lying around. As for AGP 1x, I will give it a try. I have a LeadTek GeForce2 and the nvidia 5.32 drivers, they should be relatively stable. As for Windows ME, it does not support SMP, so why the hell would I want to run it.

    Rant About Win2k

Sorry for the rant, I suppose it made me sound like a Lamer. I am just sick of games crashing on Win2k. Perhaps if I set the processor affinity of games' respective processess in TaskMan they would think that they are running on a uniprocessor system. As for the drivers, I am using Nvidia's leaked 5.32 Detonator2 drivers, they might not be very stable. Also my Abit BP6 mobo is not known for stability. I raised my CPU voltage up to 2.05V per CPU, I will see if that helps. Win2k in general has been very stable for me, with the exception of games and DVD. One game that has especially irritated me is Deu[censored], it is quite buggy and runs like ice unless you have a 3DFX card. The patch that was supposed to increase speed just causes the game to crash.

    Rant About Win2k

I wonder why my friend's system (Dell PIII 450Mhz with a TNT2Ultra (5.22 Det2)) can play any game on the market well (with decent framerates at 1024*768*32) while my system sucks ass at gaming. I have a Dual Celeron 450 (i.e. OC'ed 300a) with 128MB RAM and a GeForce2 (5.32 Det2). In theory my system should be much more powerful (due to the vid card at the very least). However, most games crash, freeze or run like a led brick. Why? I think it is due to Windows 2000. Win2k still does not work well for gaming. It sucks. It is unstable as hell. It gives the user strange visual annomolies. The DirectX layer is low-performance and low-reliablity. While Win9x (which is supposed to be lower-reliablity than Win2k) is perfect. Will Mircosoft ever fix Win2k's DirectX support so that it will run games well, I am sick of every multimedia app on the planet, i.e. games and DVD, crashing my system.

Creative Labs GF2 GTS and Win2K

I have a fix. Strangely enough, the problem stems from the mouse. Disabling 'shadow mouse cursor' is not enough to fix the problem. Go into the mouse control panel and set the mouse cursor theme to 'none.' This disables the 3D mouse cursor. Disabling the 3D mouse cursor worked for me. Now my LeadTek kicks ass!

Creative Labs GF2 GTS and Win2K

I just bought a LeadTek GeForce2GTS and installed it with the Nvidia 5.22 Win2k drivers. I get the same odd little graphical glitches in 2D, especially when using MS Internet Explorer. The card is fine in 3D though. The question is, should I return the card and go back to a TNT2, or should I wait for new Nvidia reference drivers.
