Hi my laptop has a ati radeon 9700 128mb mobilty card in it how and where do i get and install drivers for the card ? im useing redhat fedora core and have a 64bit cpu if this helps ive been to the ati site and followed what it said but no luck. i cant even use the check.sh file to find out what verson of what ever im using is im lost and need help !!!???? cheers Matthew

hi I belive hav have just mounted my unused 30gig partion i use in windows and i beleve have mounted it as hda5 mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/hda5 it dosent say anything after just goes to another command line. when i look at the properties on the /mnt/hda5 folder it says its about 30gig so i figure ive done it right but what i would like to know is how do i copy files etc to this folder because when i copy and paste to the folder it just coms up with an error saying:- Access denied Could not write to /mnt/hda5/(filename) can anyone help??? thanks Matthew

hi am i able to turn my music cds into files (mp3 or what ever linux uses) i tryed using sound juicer the program that comes with redhat fedora core but when i put my "megadeth" cd it it say it cant mount and in sound juicer it just wont find anything on the cd. ive had a look at the setting and it is looking at my cd-dvd drive it say the model number and every thing ???? any help?? matthew

Hi Ive just gone and got my self a 1gig usb2.0 pen drive how do i get this to work in mandrake 10.1 when i plug it in comes up with some message saying disabling irq 13 or something all so when i have it pluged in on boot up it stops on the detecing hardware bit and dosent move on!! and when i goto control centre and goto the hareware section and it trys to detect my hardware and i have it plug in it just sits there of ages and nothing happens can anyone help me ???? thanks

hi so i editd the /etc/grub.conf and added the acpi=noirq at the end and pluged in the usb flash drive made a new device on my disktop and there it was under 'devices' and i clicked it and it worked so thanks guys for ya help cheers Matthew

hi i have just download the the wine rpm file and am wanting to install it i click on the icon but nothing happens and in termail as root still cant get it to work how do i install programs using these rpm files thanks

oh really bummer!! so anyway i can make it go any faster the os find the it as a 9600 but i cant even run the fre game 'tux racer' that comes with the fedora core its like 1 frame per second ???? thanks Matthew

hi i read somewhere before about how linux dose not suport 'win modems' so i want to buy a 56k modem for my laptop. i found one for about $80 a pcmcia modem and am wanting to know if any of the pcmcia modems are 'win modems' or what the story is. i have looked on the net and can only download windows drivers for the pcmcia modem dose this matter will redhat fedora core find it anyways????? heres the site if it helps http://www.cnet.com.tw/product/CNFM560-CF.htm thanks matthew

hi again i was able to make the dir using: mkdir /mnt/rundisk but then i used: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/rundisk it come up with an error saying: mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist Im using the new RedHat linux now the Fedora Core if ya need to know that ?? thanks alot

hi just started looking at linux so no next to nothing abiut it. i have just got myself a new laptop -3200+ 54bit athlon -1024 ddr ram -ati 9700 128 ddr -dvd writer if any of that helps its a clevo/starnote d470k with 17inch wide screen model but when i try to install mandrake it loads program into memory and detects dvd etc then goes through the sort little text boot thing but just before it gets to the "pretty" install sreen is goes blank and at bottom says processing... and just sit theres for ever!!!! i can type but nothing happens!!!! can you help me please !!!???? thanks alot

Hi i have just put on mandrake 10.1 on my pc never used linux before so a little lost i cant seem to get on the internet i have a onboard 10/100 network card and an extunal adsl router, i have gone through all the wisards and put in all the correct ip address etc but nothing happens i cant even access the rounter in telnet or a browser using 192.168.1.1 can some one please help me... thanks

yeah i put in the back off the pc i know this works because yes i use the pen drive in windows and it works fine model is a Rundisk 1GB (rm-ur22) thanks

well the Ispcidrake | grep -i eth still came up as no such command ?? in mandrake ifconfig had under eth0: inet addr: 192.168.1.2 Bcast: 192.168.1.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0 now i know in windows 192.168.1.2 in my pc's ip and submask is 255.255.255.0 but Bcast???? never seen it in windows in mandrake ifconfig had under lo: inet addr 127.0.0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0 never seen those numbers anywhere in windows??? is any of this any help?? thanks again!!!!

hows it going? yeah so i went to control centre and removed all the connections, rebooted pc and like ya said pick dhcp on everything didnt enter anything my self, rebooted pc and saw the the eth0 int the text boot mode had failed, So i went back put in mu ip numbers etc and reboot pc and then it said in text boot eth0 OK sits on this for a 2 or 3 mins tho that mean anything???? but still cant get on net or anything or access router in broswer or telnet I all so typed (as root) ispcidrake | grep -i eth it said there was no such command i then did just the grep -i eth part and it just sat there and nothing in widows i enter my own ip and dns numbers etc and it works fine if that helps ya??
