    Fedora Core DVD Download

I have downloaded the DVD iso's for Core 2 and Core 3 Test 2 however the files are only 371mb and 72.1mb each. Should they not be 4.4gb? Please advise. Thanks!

    OS Installation Error

You are right danleff. The motherboard did come out of an HP however based on some google group threads people have had success with ordering new bios chips with the asus bios on it to work in this motherboard. But, if it does not work out then I will send the chip back for an HP bios reflash. I was able to run Meips since it bypassed the error. Windows just hangs at the hardware detection screen. I hope to install Feroda Core 3 beta after I download it to a dvd this week. An anandtech member sent me a PIII 500 with 3x128mb ram for free. I hope to install those this week and will report back.

    OS Installation Error

I flashed my old bios chip from the HP bios to Asus bios which gave me the checksum error. I then purchased a new bios chip from Ice Flashing, Inc. http://mysite.verizon.net/dj_mix/ Very quick service. Highly recommend (if all this works) Yes the new bios chip has an award bios with the latest Asus bios on it from Asus's website.

    OS Installation Error

I have upgraded my computer's bios with a new bios chip that has the latest ASUS bios on it. The computer POSTs ok and boots off cd-roms ok. However, when I attempt to install either Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro the installation hangs at "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..." When I install Linux specifically "Mepis 2004 Final" I get the following error however I am able to continue with the installation through to the desktop (what a testament to Linux OS): PnP BIOS: Resource Structure does not contain an end tag. PnP BIOS: build_devlist: Node number 0x0 is out of sequence following node 0x0. Aborting. System Specs: ASUS P2B98-XV motherboard PII-350 (103x3.5) 224mb PC100 WD1200JB 3Com 3C905 Lan card Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you in advanced for your time.

    Which linux distro?

Ok here is what I accomplished last night. I have downloaded and burned the following ISO's- Fedora Core 2, Mandrakelinux 10, and the Suse boot disk. Now I have two questions: 1) There are beta versions available for Mandrakelinux and perhaps the other distros also, should I download those betas instead of the ones I have? 2) I am looking to get the latest version of Mepis which some say is SimplyMepis 2004 Final (strange how it is only one cd)...but on some of the FTP site I see Mepis 2004 RC1, RC2, etc...which do I download to install on my hard drive? Thanks!

    Which linux distro?

Thanks blackpage for the help! I was confused also with the Mipes distribution which to get the most current version I would have to pay for it. As of my idea, I will currently take my 120gb which has Suse running on it and partition it out as this. Partition 1- 30gb for WinXP Pro/Games/Programs Partition 2- 70gb Fat 32 for Storage/MP3/Video Partition 3- 20gb for whatever Linux distro I finally settle on I have been using Fdisk to partition the drives however when in Win XP I have been unable to format the Partition 2 with Fat32 the only option is NTFS. Is there a way I can format my Partition 2 with Fat32 without getting the program partition magic? **AND, when I install any linux distro and point it to install on the Partition 3 if I chose automatic partition will it create a swap file partition and a linux partition within the 20gb?

    Which linux distro?

Here is a question for you guy which is prolly a really stupid one. I was thinking to make life easier to purchase a second hard drive for my system either Western Digital 80/120/160 8mb drive and install Linux on it. Therefore I would have my 120gb primary drive with Win XP Pro and the new hard drive as a slave with Linux on the same IDE channel. Question is how would I be able to boot off the second drive when I wanted too. Would I have to always go into the bios and select boot off HDD1 instead of HDD0 to run the second os?

    Which linux distro?

based on your analogy I am looking for a shoe that is friendly to install and run on my hard drive and will educate me regarding linux since I have a spare computer at home which I would like to turn into a server in the future

    Which linux distro?

Not that I am ignoring everyone's advise. There are tons of distro's out there. Seems like everyone is pointing to Fedora or Mepis. Ha...more confused than ever.

    Which linux distro?

Looks like I am leaning towards Suse for its package adding feature. However, I can only find the ISO for the personal version which runs off the cd. How can I get the professional version ISO which I can download and burn the install discs?

    Which linux distro?

Anyone know where I can download the ISO's for SUSE LINUX Professional 9.1? There is only the personal edition on their website. Thanks.

    Which linux distro?

Looks like the main three for distros are Fedora/Mandrake/Suse Based upon some research it looks like Mandrake/Suse are more newb friendly. Seeing how this is my first attempt with linux that may be the way to go. Leaning towards Suse since it seems to be more current than the Mandrake 10 version. Any suggestions would be great! Since I am planning on downloading the ISO's tonight for the one distro chosen.
