FEDORA and Dell c800 GUI display "not"

Hey - I've got the same problem on a dell 600m....i can get to a console, but when I try to access the GUI (using startx, gdm, kdm) the screen goes black, and there is some flicker from the hard drive light, but no go..... help? anybody?
