    Evolution & Cox

I am also using evilution and cox. and I have no problems at all. I am using SuSE 8.2 you might want to check your mail settings the settings for cox email are quite easy to set up the pop settings are pop.[region].cox.net and the smtp settings are smtp.[region].cox.net them[region] being your geographical area. such as pop.west.cox.net and smtp.west.cox.net. I hope this helps. this is about the only advise I can offer you since I am very new to linux

    mplayer

I recently found out [the hard way] that the mplayer [and xine as well] that comes with large distos like SuSE or Mandrake or what ever don't come with any codec like xvid or divx and so on. my question is this is it best to simply install the codecs myself or to uninstall the player and then reinstall it with the needed codecs

    Windows Xp and Linux

this kind of isn't what you were asking but what works for me is to put a second hard drive in your sytem and load linux on it. when i did this i even let grub write to the master boot record i then made a fat32 partions on my windows drive large enough to suit my needs and put all the files on it i want to get at from linux. so what i ended up with was two os's in their own seperate space and a common partion bewteen them it worked quite well. and I'm a real newbie when it comes to linux. hard drives are pretty cheap now as well. just thought I would put my 2 cents in Ron

    MANDRAKE 9 Dualboot Dummy Question

i now use two seperate computers now. but when I was booting both linux and windows on the same box. i used separate hard drives. it made for less headaches for me. the drive that held windows was partitioned and the c partition was ntfs and the rest of the drive was fat32 and linux was on another physical drive. I kept my mp3's and anything else of interest on the fat32 partition so i could get to them from my linux drive I know that is not what he is trying to get help with but hard drives are pretty cheap and it will be alot easier for him. just adding my 2 cents ron

    SuSe 8.2

I just recently installed SuSe 8.2 all seems to have went ok except one thing. When my computer boots up the little welcome music hangs up I have no idea where to look to find out why or what I have to do to solve the problem. Is there anyway I can simply disable the little bootup tune. all else seems to work fine. all hardware is detected with exception of my printer which I can install manually. any and all help will be apreciated thank you

    non raid controller cards

I am using a non raid promise fast track controler card for my hard drives since I am running 3 physical drives. everytime i try to install mandrake it gets to a certian point and hangs up right after i tell it what kind of mouse i have. when i first boot from the first cd each one of my drives give a lost interup msg about 5 or 6 times. can anyone shed some light on this. both my optical drives reside on their own ide channel and my zip drive is a slave on the secondary channel. on my controller card. i boot windows on the drive that is on the primary channel by it's self. the other tw hard drives are master and slave on the secondary channel of my controller card. also my windows drive is fat32.

    Getting mad at Mandrake

I found that if I use a fat32 file system in xp that I don't have any proglems at all. ues fat32 is not as good as ntfs. but since linux is better than windows it doesn't matter[i couldn't resist that] my machine dual boots linux and xp with no problems and i can even swap files to and from windows and linux.

Decided On A Distribution - SuSe

I ran That distro for a while. it does install rather nicely when it comes to updates I prefer the way mandrake does things though I guess it comes down to how much you know about linux( me not much at all-still learning) and personal prefererence
