  1. Before hanging laptop computer issues these messages cardmgr[863]: Socket 0 anonymous memory cardmgr[863]: get dev info on socket 0 failed : resource temporary unavailable These messages issued a number of times and then laptop hangs. Don't the developers EVER test with laptops ???? Help
  2. Anybody got a Lucent Technologies Orinoco wireless pcmcia card to work on a laptop. Laptop also has an in built LAN adapter (eth0) Prob 1 -- eth0 always is up whether or not it's bought down (ifcongig eth0 down) -- also set to Don't start at boot -- no avail Eth1 with my laptop wireless card gets same ip address as eth0 -- and there doesn't seem to be any way to set this as a different address to eth0. So as soon as I try and connect -- system hangs as 2 pieces of hardware have same Ip address anybody else tried the supposed "Bug Free" Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo yet -- it's on mirrors all over the place now. Desktop works fine but I think I'm going back to Red hat 7.2 on the laptop -- I can live without sound or DVD on a laptop but I NEED wireless and it worked. I can't remember what I did but I can just restore partition images - Bruback / power quest Drive image. ( I tried Redhat 8 and red hat Phoebe -- Wireless also failed to work on my laptop so what on earth is in RH 7.1 that keeps working when newer distros give up the ghost) Help appreciated as this distro (Bamboo) looks great.
  3. Having read a load of good stuff about Mandrake 9.1 Final (Bamboo) I downladed the 3 Cd's (Nearly 10 hours - even on fast connection due to overload of Mirrors) Booted up --- PCMCIA started -- I thought -- Good . Tried to set up eth1 connection --- guess what -- Laptop Hangs just like previous releases Tried 4 -- yes 4 different wireless cards in my laptop -- surely 1 would work -- Oh no. Using a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Gold card -- one of the most compatable wireless cards around anywhere. Card activates -- can start eth1 but as soon as I try to connect to internet computer hangs. Netgear Ma401 (not the MA401RA version) didn't work - computer hangs as soon as pcmcia service is started. Belkin didn't work -- not even recognized - just ignored. /sbin/cardctl ident didn't even show a card -- just cardbus oz..... same for US Robotics 22 MPS wireless card. If I can't connect my Laptop to a Wireless network then it's back to 'Doze and Mr Gates. The distro works fine on my desktop -- but PLEASE GUYS -- Laptops are a MUST these days especially 1) people on the move 2) If end users are ever going to move away from Windows. The rest of the package is fine -- DVD playing / writing, Open office a good replacement for Microsoft office etc, CD writing file sharing etc But WIRELESS MUST WORK ON A LAPTOP. This is a 100% showstopper. So any people out there concerned with building new distros please do more checking with laptops. Otherwise Mandrake job well done.
