  1. www.tibia.org is the homepage. you can play for free as long as you want. but you also could consider to buy a so called premium account which will offer new features then. but a free account is more than enough to take a look at it.

    Windows Xp and Linux

just get a debian net install cd or so ... there are iso images that are less than 30 mb in size ... with one of those discs you could fix your system ... and don't say you dunno anyone with an internet connection fast enough to download 30 mb see your other post about the boot loader, i really hope i described the most important things correctly there.

How to boot into linux now?

its not that compicated, even if it might sound a little like this at first boot with a linux cd you got at hand, dunno some debian or suse or a readhat cd ... they all contain so called rescue systems. when this rescue system has bootet just create lets say /mylinux then mount your root partition into this dir, i dunno if you are familiar with all this, but dont take it as offence mount /dev/hda2 /mylinux where hda2 should of course be replaced with your root partition if you got a separate usr, boot, or partitions like that just mount them to their coresponding dirs under /mylinux after you mounted all your partitions type 'chroot /mylinux' hmm you also might have to remount the /proc to /mylinux/proc before you use chroot ... but i forgot the command ;P now you are in your linux, now you just have to type 'lilo' and the linux boot loader should be reinstalled to its previous state ... after all this just type reboot and about the booting from the windows boot loader ... it requires a working lilo or grub but not on the master boot record but maybe on your boot, or root partition. to get the bootsector you need, you will have to type dd if=/dev/partitionwhereliloresides of=/linboot.bin bs=512 count=1 now you have to get this linboot.bin to your windows harddrive and edit the boot ini to contain something like this [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" C:\linboot.bin="Linux" then it should work ... well but you will have to create a new linboot.bin file every time you reinstall lilo, in case you change the kernel Uhm that should be enough for now if anything is wrong dont blame me, the syntax of the commands might have some small mistakes as i wrote all this just from my mind If you knew me you would be scared by now, hehe

  5. its quite funny that you test all those windows applications if they run on linux. someone should try running linux apps under winnt and post it on ntcompatible, it will be a looooong row of NO. maybe you should try finding native linux applications that fullfill the tasks you want. since this is linuxcompatible and not winonlinux compatible. maybe a list of good replacement products would be an idea .. like if you need something that works like acdsee use pixie or something like that. but maybe i fail to see the idea of this page so dont mind to tell me if i am completely of topic so here you got something to reply as there is not much traffic on these boards yet

    Running Programs

i suppose you use kde in this desription. as i do not know it so detailed for gnome. if you want to run the real player just use alt+F2 type 'realplay' and then enter and it will start up to add it to a menu just rightclick the kicker menu (usualy it has the big K icon ) and choose menu editor. i think the menu editor is quite self explaining hope it helped a little

need help on ftp server choice

There is also a german site for proftpd and they had a RPM package for SuSE 8.0. i edited the config files to my needs told inetd to tale care of port 21 and all looks fine so far. maybe one final thing, is there an utility that can tell me when someone starts downloading. something like a kicker icon or so that blinks or something like that. I think i will look for some application like that maye there is a gkrellm plugin or so. using 'cat /var/log/xferlog' can't be the best to verify if someone was there finally thanks for this suggestion and no i could not wait for other proposals, as i could not stand it to try things out
  8. - I want to use it for data exchange in a local network. - no more then 10 persons will be on it at the same time. - it should be secure - easy to set up - speed - anonymous login (up/download) - i want to login as regular user to get access to my home directory I hope thats enough information to choose a good server for me. (and i do not need answers like: 'all ftp servers will do that' ) My system is suse linux 8.0
