  1. I'd like to see something implemented that prevents or discourages people from submitting apps as compatible for the OS that they're designed for. For example, I see 25 listings for Bootvis and so I look and see that most of the entries are saying it runs great on XP. Well, it's supposed to. XP is what it's designed for. According to the Bootvis license, XP is all you're allowed to run it on. Saying that it runs great on XP isn't really helpful information. I've always thought of the compatibility listings as apps or devices that were designed for other OS's that were found to work under NT based OS's. Sometimes with a little nudge to get going. Which brings me to another point, and I'll use Bootvis as an example again. Bootvis has several entries saying it works great on Win 2k. Well, I just installed 2k and patched it all up and Bootvis doesn't work. I don't really care that Bootvis doesn't work on my 2k, but I'd like to see some info in the Bootvis listings that tell what the trick is to get it going on 2k. Other than those two things I like what you've done with the compatibility listings. It's what originally brought me to NT Compatible back in geez... 1998 or 1999 or so. Man has it really been that long?

The forum is a ghost town.......

I still lurk around from time to time, but really I haven't seen much of anything that's been brought up in the last couple years that wasn't already beat to death by 2003. Heh, in fact there is a bit of deja vu with this thread http://www.compatdb.org/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/139886/page/0/fpart/1

  4. There must have been a train wreck of considerable magnitude here with APK. Not only has his account disabled, but all his posts ever made have been deleted. I don't have any issues with his account being disabled, anyone that has been visiting here for more than a few months has probably seen it coming. I do think it's a disservice to the visitors who come here looking for solutions to problems that he may have helped with. He did have some pretty helpful suggestions at times. To see all of his posts wiped across the board seems a bit heavy to me.

    Anybody seen the film "Constantine"?

I saw it over the weekend and enjoyed it. I like Keanu Reeves, he might not be the highest quality actor but I find him entertaining and he tends to fit his roles. The character he plays in Constantine is similar to his role as Neo in the Matrix in that he's given this role in life that he didn't choose to be in and is trying to make what he can out of it. There are a few cheesy moments, but hey it's a comic book film. I'd probably put it in the same category as Daredevil. The hero has no special powers, and his motives aren't always for the good of others. But in the end he does the right/ good thing. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but it was entertaining enough that I'll buy it when it comes out on dvd.
  7. More accurately, there is no key on the cd itself to extract. All the cd's are identical. The key which is provided seperately is what differentiates the copy.
  8. I've done a quick look over the web and haven't really found what I'm looking for yet, maybe someone here can help me out I'd like to download or build a bootable recovery console cd for Windows 2000 and XP. I use BartPE frequently, but sometimes all I'm doing with it is chkdsk and deleting a few files which could be done a lot quicker with a command prompt. I could use an install cd but I'm just looking for something that boots up quickly and is able to do these 2 simple tasks really. NTFS is what I'm using this on mostly, so I'll have a distrust of any Linux based tools. I know that Linux has good read support for NTFS but last I heard write support was still sketchy. Thanks!
  9. oh yea, to keep on topic I visit a couple others not mentioned so far... Activewin.com good for news, lots of linux versus microsoft flamefests in the foums though. msfn.org more news stuff, not much activity in the forums good ol' ntcompatible.com is by far the best though if I want some good, usable help from others.

what the hell happened to this forum

Maybe folks're just here to learn or get hassles fixed rather than post replies, but I have also noted ALOT of new members too posting as well also, a good thing! apk I stopped posting a few months ago just out of general frustration with trolls, flaimbaiters, os jihadists,... etc. Actually, as far as forums go this one is still probably the best with regard to forum to flame ratio. I just don't post on any forums anymore, even though I still read quite a few. Jim

400 spam in 4 days - who can beat

Well, it's the 23rd of the month and so far 3153 messages this month (all spam) in an email account I haven't actively used since 1999. It amazes me that after not using this account for 5 years that I still get this much in it. I don't remember getting this much spam in this account when I stopped using it. Jim

    AOL Welcome Voice

It's no more annoying than any other type of ad really, but what it does is make you stop reading mid sentence. Kind of like having a kid tug on your shirt sleeve 4 times per page.

For what it's worth they don't show up in Mozilla or Firefox. I had to open IE to see what you guys are talking about... definately annoying advertising!
  15. I have Ghost 2003 and generally like it. I have however, found though that every image I've created on an external usb cd burner is corrupted. All the ones I've made on an Atapi cdrom have been fine though. Same computers in both cases, the only difference was the burner used. YMMV
